Since 2016, we've helped thousands of learners, just like you, build their comprehension of French and Spanish with the Coffee Break Masterclass. This is your opportunity to be part of the inaugural class of the Coffee Break Italian Masterclass!
The Masterclass is organised in monthly modules, each one containing five audio lessons that are going to help you master grammar, learn idiomatic expressions and sound more authentic when you're speaking Italian. All of this is based on our tried and tested Coffee Break Method which helps you turn your down time into "do time" and make progress like never before.
Let's take a look at the curriculum...
Month 1
from 15th February 2024
Get on top of the most common tenses in Italian, and know exactly when to use which one and how to conjugate regular and irregular verbs in each tense. You'll learn to use the various past tenses, including the passato remoto. You'll also learn about the future, the future perfect, the conditional and the past conditional.
Month 2
from mid March 2024
In this module we'll be looking at some complex structures in Italian including comparative and superlative adjectives, the imperative, the passive voice and the various uses of that tiny, but complex pronoun si. You'll also learn about progressive tenses which use the gerund.
Month 3
from mid April 2024
This module focuses on pronouns: everything from direct and indirect object pronouns to reflexive and reciprocal pronouns, ci and ne and how to combine pronouns. You'll be a master of Italian pronouns after completing Module 3!
Month 4
from mid May 2024
You may already have come across the subjunctive in Coffee Break Italian Level 3. In this modules we'll be looking at this mood in greater detail and learning about the various triggers which result in the subjunctive. By learning to use the subjunctive confidently, you'll sound all the more like a native speaker!
Month 5
from mid June 2024
In June we'll be continuing our study of the subjunctive and mastering its use in various tenses. We'll also consider how it's used with constructions like chiunque, dovunque, qualunque and magari.
Month 6
from mid July 2024
The final module of the Coffee Break Italian Masterclass will help you to sound more Italian when you speak. We'll be looking at topics such as using filler words and interjections, using expressions like mi raccommando, mica and infatti, and how to vary Italian word order as a native speaker would.

When does the Masterclass start?
We're opening up the Masterclass for access in January 2024, and the course begins on Thursday 15th February, continuing until 14th August 2024. Of course, we understand that you may have commitments which mean that you may not be able to take each lesson on the day it's released. However, once they're released, the lessons will be available to you for as long as you need them. Please note that registration will close as soon as the class reaches capacity or by 15th February 2024 and you will not be able to sign up again until the next time we open the course for registration.
How does the membership work?
When you pay for the Masterclass we'll create your account in the Coffee Break Academy and, as each lesson becomes available, you'll be able to access the audio files, text documents and video reviews within our platform. It's there that you'll do your homework tasks and receive feedback from the Masterclass tutors. You'll also have access to all the materials after your six months have ended. However, please note that after August 2024 we will no longer be actively monitoring the comments and discussion areas in this course.
Who is the Masterclass for?
We’ve developed the Masterclass specifically for learners who are at an intermediate level. You should already have completed at least Levels 1 and 2 of Coffee Break Italian (or an equivalent intermediate course). The Masterclass is also perfect for learners who have completed or are working on Coffee Break Italian Level 3. Through the lessons you'll develop your range of expression and build on what you’ve previously learned.
What happens after I pay?
As soon as you sign up you'll receive a confirmation email and this will include some further information about the course and a link to the Coffee Break Academy login page. We'll also send some further emails to help you prepare for the course. On 30th January we'll activate the Orientation Module for you in the Academy. The lessons will be made available on each publication day at the time you originally purchased the course. So, if you sign up at 2pm UK time, then the lessons will become available at 2pm on each publishing day.
How do I access the Masterclass?
The Masterclass is a bit different from our other courses because it is more like a 'coaching course', running for 6 months. You can access the audio lessons, the text documents and the video reviews for each module on the Coffee Break Academy. You can also download the materials to your own device or use a third party app such as Documents to organise and store the media files. Please note that there will not be a podcast feed for audio or video elements of the Masterclass.
Why can I only pay in $USD?
We have Masterclass students from all over the world, and $USD is the currency which is accepted most widely. This means that no matter where you are, you'll be able to pay for the Masterclass with a credit or debit card, PayPal or Apple Pay / Google Pay, and your bank will automatically convert the payment in $USD into your own currency at the current exchange rate.
Do I get access to all the materials at once?
No. The materials are "dripped out" over the course of the 6-month course. Lessons are published every few days, with five main lessons and additional activities, reviews, checklists and module tests over each month. Our experience is that this gradual release of the materials will help you keep on top of the course and avoid being overwhelmed.
Why does this class not begin on 1st February?
Our original Class of February 2024 reached capacity within 24 hours when we announced it. We're adding a second class beginning on 15th February. The experience for Group B will be identical to that of Group A, but the lessons will simply be staggered and each module will run from the middle of the month to the middle of the next month.
