Perhaps you've always wanted to learn Scottish Gaelic. Perhaps you dream of visiting Scotland. Perhaps you have a new friend or colleague from the Outer Hebrides, or you'd like to dig deeper into Gaelic family roots. Whatever your reason for learning Scottish Gaelic, we'll help you reach your goal.
Learning a language is one of the most rewarding ways to spend your time: it opens new doors, lets you discover new cultures and transforms your travel experiences. But becoming a confident user of the language takes time and effort and it's hard to find the time to fit in regular study.
That's why we invented the Coffee Break method...
For over 16 years, learners around the world have learned a language using the Coffee Break courses. The premise is simple: set aside 15 minutes, pour yourself a cup of coffee (or tea, or your drink of choice!) and enjoy a structured lesson with expert teachers. It's just like going for a coffee with your friend who happens to speak the language you want to learn.
"I just discovered Coffee Break Italian and I want to compliment the team for such a fantastic way for me to improve my study of the Italian language. I have used many study aids over the years and it is only Coffee Break Italian that is giving me exactly what I need. Thank you!"
- James (Italian learner)
"Thanks (almost exclusively) to Coffee Break Spanish I have gone from being an absolute beginner to level B2 in less than a year."
- Espee (Spanish learner)
"Your program really has helped me to understand the grammar side of the language so much better than the classes that I have taken where everything was explained in German."
- Raquel (German learner)
In each lesson of Coffee Break Gaelic you'll focus on a different topic and listen to an authentic lesson between our Gaelic teacher Susanna and her student Mark. Mark is learning along with you, so as he asks questions - very often questions you may have yourself - Susanna will answer these and help him build his understanding of the language. You're the "second learner in the room", so you'll learn from this interaction between the teacher and learner.
If you're a visual learner, it makes sense to begin with the video for each lesson, where you'll hear the audio recording and see synchronised slides featuring all the words and phrases taught on the screen of your device.
If you prefer to learn aurally, you can use the audio lesson first. You can master the pronunciation and then consolidate your learning with the video lesson.
You'll also be able to take advantage of the lesson notes which offer additional information, examples and vocabulary.
We start publishing the lessons of Coffee Break Gaelic on 22 March 2023 and lessons will be added every Wednesday thereafter. As each lesson is published, you'll be able to access the lesson in the learning system. Coffee Break Gaelic is made up of 40 main lessons and in between each lesson there is a bonus episode to help you consolidate what you've learned. Of course, you'll have lifetime access to the course whenever your start and you can work through the materials at your own pace as they become available.
Gaelic is the collective term for the Celtic languages spoken in Ireland and Scotland. Both Irish and Scottish Gaelic developed from the same root language, so there are many similarities between them. However, Irish and Scottish Gaelic are different languages, each with their grammar and pronunciation. At first glance, Irish and Scottish Gaelic can appear quite similar. But once you delve a little deeper, interesting distinctions between these two fascinating languages become clear. Coffee Break Gaelic focuses on Scottish Gaelic.
